IBM Security Guardium Ideas Portal

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post your ideas

Start by posting ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,

  1. Post an idea

  2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you

  3. Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea

Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests

The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The offering manager team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notification on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

Post an Idea

To post a new idea - click on the "Add a new idea" button and select the appropriate capability area this idea relates to. Do provide requested information to allow us to get a better understanding of your request. If 'Guardium Data Protection' capability is selected, you will be prompted to select the category/product the idea relates to. If you are not sure of the category/product your idea would fall under, then select 'IBM Guardium Other' in the drop down list and proceed from there.

Please note: The purpose of the Ideas Portal is to tap the creativity of the Guardium Data Protection community so that we can enhance the product for everyone! If you need to report a defect or get help, please use our normal support channel. Click here to open a support ticket.

For IBMers, click here to submit an idea on behalf of a customer, if the customer prefers to keep their use case and idea private.

GDE agent to use GPFS HA peer domain such as DB2 pureScale

System: Product IBM Guardium Data Encryption on IBM AIX GPFS using HACMP 7.1
Actor: User who needs encryption on GPFS HA environment
Product IBM Guardium Data Encryption is an encryption product both for structured and unstructured data.
RSCT is an IBM clustering and communications technology that provides a scalable and reliable framework for clustering application clients running on multiple hosts. RSCT provides support for peer domains and RSCT peer domain is a cluster of hosts configured for high availability.
And GDE agent integrates with RSCT to support clustering of GDE agent instances running on a cluster of hosts under GPFS.
However, only one RSCT peer domain can be active and the same peer domain must be active on the members of a cluster and DSS customer uses RSCT peer domain for their high availability. So it is not able to install GDE agent on this environment.
The GDE agent creates the peer domain VormetricDomain on participating members of the GPFS cluster during agent installation. RSCT peer domain is designed for high availability originally and this sort of conflict occurred with DB2 pureScale before and it has been resolved from GDE already. GDE embraces DB2 pureScale peer domain not creating our own peer domain.
Page 66 of Agent Installation Guide(GDE_AgentInstallConfig_Guide_5.2.5v1-2h.pdf) already describes solution how we can operate with IBM AIX HACMP(PowerHA) peer domain with the sample of DB2 pureScale. We can easily change to expand to use HACMP peer domain such as DB2 pureScale peer domain.
In the conflict of DB2 pureScale, installation of GDE agent in DB2 v10.5 Cluster Application environments does not create VormetricDomain. Instead, the agent relies on the peer domain created by DB2 for operation of DB2 pureScale. The GDE agent operates in cluster mode in clusters configured with VormetricDomain or DB2 specific peer domain.
Latest version of GDE HACMP use RSCT peer domain, so we should add to choose HACMP peer domain also in addition to DB2 pureScale peer domain.
